Dockside Lake Resort — Resort & Pool Policies

The Indiana State Board of Health requires the strict enforcement of all Resort and Pool rules. Please read and follow the resort and pool rules posted in your room/cottage. Please remember you are not the only guest at Dockside—be courteous to others so everyone can enjoy a clean, safe, and relaxing stay. Thank you for your cooperation!

Office Hours

  • The office is staffed daily from 11:00 AM to 2:00 PM.

  • If you need assistance after hours, please call (574) 297-5674.

Check-In Requirements & Minimum Age

  • Minimum age to check in is 18. At least one registered guest must be 18+ and present during the stay.

  • Photo ID is required at check-in.

  • Children must be supervised by an adult at all times while on the property.

Speed Limit & Property Courtesy

  • Speed limit on property: 5 MPH.

  • Please be respectful of quiet hours, shared spaces, and neighboring properties.

Registered Guests & Occupancy

  • The number of guests must match your reservation and may not exceed the unit’s maximum occupancy.

  • Unregistered/additional overnight guests are not permitted. Violation may result in termination of your reservation with no refund.

Quiet Hours & Guest Conduct

  • Quiet hours: 11:00 PM – 8:00 AM

  • Guests must conduct themselves appropriately and treat the property, staff, and other guests with respect.

  • Disruptive behavior or policy violations may result in removal/eviction without refund.

  • No outdoor speakers (to respect other guests and our neighbors).

Parking

  • One (1) vehicle per unit is permitted in the designated space.

  • Additional vehicles must park across the street in the free Indiana Beach parking area.

  • Do not block other vehicles or access areas. Vehicles and contents are parked at the owner’s risk; the resort is not responsible for loss or damage.

  • Please be prepared to provide your make/model and license plate number at arrival/check-in.

Fires, Fire Pit & Prohibited Items (Safety)

  • No fires of any kind except for the use of gas grills and the designated fire pit area.

  • Absolutely no fireworks or firearms on the property.

  • For the safety of all guests, no weapons are permitted on resort grounds.

Smoking & Vaping Policy

  • No smoking or vaping in any rooms/cottages or the pool area.

  • Smoking is permitted only in clearly marked designated areas.

  • Please use ashtrays provided—do not dispose of cigarette butts on the ground.

  • $500 cleaning fee will be charged for smoking/vaping inside any unit.

Illegal Substances

  • Illegal substances are prohibited anywhere on the property.

  • If observed or confirmed, your reservation may be immediately cancelled with no refund, and additional cleaning fees may apply.

 

Dock Area Rules

  • No swimming at the docks.

  • No children under 18 are allowed in the dock area without adult supervision.

  • The docks can be dangerous and the water is deep—please use extreme caution.

Pool Rules (Registered Guests Only)

  • Pool hours: 10:00 AM – 10:00 PM

  • The pool is for registered guests only. 

  • No lifeguard on duty — swim at your own risk.

  • No children under 13 allowed in the pool area without adult supervision.

  • No running, diving, or horseplay in the pool area.

  • Keep the gate closed when entering or leaving the pool.

Health, Hygiene & Swim Attire

  • Use of the pool with open cuts/wounds is prohibited.

  • No cut-offs or colored t-shirts in the pool.

  • Clean bathing suits only: Swimwear that has been worn in the lake is not permitted in the pool. Lake water can introduce algae and may require the pool to close for cleaning.

Food/Drink & Glass Policy

  • No food of any kind in the pool area, including snacks, gum, or candy.

  • Cans or plastic cups only—absolutely no glass in the pool area.

Towels

  • Room towels are NOT allowed in the pool area. Beach towels only.

  • Complimentary pool towels are not provided—please bring beach towels from home.

  • If you forgot yours, beach towels may be available for purchase in the office (limited supply).

Grills

  • Gas grills are provided first come, first served.

  • If you need to exchange a propane tank, please contact the manager.

Housekeeping & Guest Responsibilities

To keep rates flexible, daily housekeeping is not provided.​

During Your Stay / Towels

  • If fresh towels are requested, please bring soiled towels to the office for exchange (during staffed hours).

Check-Out Expectations

Before departing, please:

  • Bag all trash and take it to the dumpster located at the rear of the property near the garage.

  • Wash all dishes/utensils and leave them to dry.

  • Remove all food and wipe down the refrigerator.

  • Place used towels and linens in a pile on the kitchen floor.

  • Please use the sheets provided for the futon to help keep the cushions clean.

Service Fees (if expectations aren’t met)

  • $40 dishwashing fee if dishes are left for housekeeping to wash

  • $25 trash removal fee if trash is left inside the unit

Missing Items, Damages & Additional Charges

  • Missing or damaged items will be charged at replacement value, and additional fees may apply for special cleaning or damages.

  • You authorize Dockside Lake Resort to charge the card on file for damages, missing items, or extra cleaning discovered during or after your stay.

Common Replacement Charges

  • Towels: $15 each

  • Pillows: $20 each

  • Blankets: $25 each

Pets

  • Pets are not permitted in accommodations or on resort grounds.

  • Service animals are welcome in accordance with ADA guidelines. Please notify us in advance.

Phones

  • Phones are not provided in guest accommodations. Please use your personal phone and call (574) 297-5674 if you need help.

Security Cameras

Notice: Dockside Lake Resort has security cameras around the grounds for your safety and ours.

 

Deposit, Payment & Cancellation Policy

  • Deposit Required: All reservations require a deposit equal to one (1) night’s lodging plus applicable taxes at the time of booking (“Deposit”).

  • Non-Refundable Deposit: The Deposit is non-refundable and will be applied to your total stay.

    • If your reservation is one (1) night, the Deposit equals the full cost of your stay and is non-refundable.

  • Remaining Balance: Any remaining balance is due at check-in unless otherwise arranged in writing.

  • Cancellations: Cancellations must be received at least 14 days prior to arrival to be eligible for a refund of amounts paid beyond the non-refundable Deposit.

  • Within 14 days / No-shows / Early departures / Evictions / Weather-related cancellations: No refunds will be issued.

  • Holiday & special event dates: All payments are non-refundable if cancelled.

Loss, Damage & Liability

  • The resort is not responsible for loss, theft, or damage to personal property or vehicles.

  • The resort is not liable for disruptions beyond reasonable control (including power outages, extreme weather, flood, fire, or other “acts of God”). Resort liability shall not exceed the value of charges paid.

FAQ's

1. Do you allow pets on the property?

  • While we are animal lovers, for legal and sanitary reasons, animals of any kind are not allowed in the motel, cottages, or anywhere on the property, with the exception of service animals

2. Do you supply pool towels? 

  • We do not supply pool towels, you will need to bring your own. *Also, please note that due to legalities in the State of Indiana, you need to bring multiple swim suits if you plan on swimming in the lake, or visiting the Indiana Beach Water Park, and swimming in our heated pool. The lake contains algae that we cannot allow in our heated pool, so a different swimsuit must be worn in our pool than what you wear to the lake/water park. There are no exceptions. 

3. How many people can stay/sleep in a cabin? Motel room?

  • Cabins 1-5 sleep 6 people. Cabin 6 sleeps 4 people. Motel rooms 7,8,10, and 11 sleep 4. Motel room 9 sleeps 8, as does motel 7/8 combo unit. Each unit has a maximum occupancy that is strictly enforced, including infants, toddlers, and children. 

4. What is furnished in the units?

Cabins:

  • Bath towels, hand towels, and washcloths (bring your own pool towel)

  • Dish towels, dish cloths

  • Bed linens and blankets

  • Silverware

  • Cooking utensils

5. Do you provide daily housekeeping services?

  • Our units are thoroughly cleaned upon checkout only, however should you need extra towels, just bring the soiled towels to the office to trade for fresh ones. 

6. Do you supply paper towels? 

  • We supply one roll of paper towels per unit, should you need more you will need to bring your own, or we will have some for purchase in our small General Store. 

7. What time is check-in? Check-out?

  • Check-in is any time after 4 PM. 

  • Check-out is 11 AM. We try to honor every request, but sometimes not all can be met. Unfortunately, we do not allow a late check-out, as we need the time to prepare for the next guest. 

8. Is Dockside directly on Lake Shafer?

  • Yes we are! We have boat docks available on a first come, first served basis, for you to dock your boat. You are also welcome to fish from the docks, we even have fishing poles for you to use, free of charge. 

9. Do the cabins have internet access? 

  • Yes, we have wi-fi available on the property, just get the password from the office.

10. Where do we park extra cars if we bring more than 1 car?

  • Additional cars must be parked across the street. If you park in front of the garage, in front of the dumpster, or in the side yard, your vehicle will be towed at your expense.  

11. If I have friends staying at another resort, can they come swimming with me at the Dockside pool?

  • No, the pool, and and other amenities, are for Dockside registered guests only. 

12. If it rains, or my stay is interrupted by inclement weather, can I get a refund for unused days should I decide to check out early?

  • No, we do not issue refunds for early check out for any reason. 

13. Do you supply firewood for the fire pit area?

  • We do not. Campfires are only allowed in the provided areas, and must be supervised by an adult of at least 21 years of age. 

14. Are there guest laundry facilities available at Dockside?

  • We do not have guest laundry facilities. There is a laundry mat 2.5 miles away called Life's A Beach Wash & Tan.

15. What is required upon check-in?

  • We require guests to complete and sign registration card at check-in, provide a valid drivers license or identification card, and pay any outstanding balances due. Cash and credit cards only, checks are not accepted. We will retain your credit card number on file for incidentals/damages.

16. What taxes can I expect to pay?

  • State tax is 7%, County tax is 3%, and Innkeeper's tax is 2%, for a total of 12% tax. . 

17. What are the pool hours?

  • Our heated pool is open from 10 AM - 10 PM, weather permitting. Hours subject to change.

18. Are fireworks/firearms allowed on the property?

  • No, no fireworks or firearms of any kind are allowed on the property. 

19. Do you allow smoking on the property?

  • Smoking is strictly prohibited inside all cottages and motel rooms. This includes vapor cigarettes. A minimum $500.00 cleaning fee will be charged if caught in violation of this policy. 

  • Smoking is allowed outside and at the pool in the designated smoking area. Please use receptacles for disposal of cigarette butts. 

20. Do you have a designated quiet time?

  • We ask that all of our guests be respectful of others on the property. Quiet time is at 11 PM. 

21. Is there guest parking available?

  • One (1) designated parking space is available on the property (per unit) for registered guests only. Additional parking is available in the lot across the street. If you park in front of the garage, in front of the dumpster, or in the side yard, your vehicle will be towed at your expense.
